Difference

The fundamental difference between Grizzl-E Power Control and Payment Solution (GPCPS) is that there is only ONE smart control device per set of charging ports versus every charging port is a smart controlled device.

Has ROI

Second fundamental principle of the GPCPS is that is can operate in Stand Alone mode and does not require any online software or payment fees to operate. In Connected Mode the fees are few levels of magnitude less compared to any other commercial model on the market. By inventing this system, we managed to achieve the most important milestone – GPCPS has Return On Investment (ROI). Means it actually can make you money!

Simplicity

Third fundamental principle of the GPCPS is simplicity in approach to installation, operation and maintenance of this Solution. Solution can be maintained by the owner!
System consists of the Power Control and Payment Hub (PCPH) and EV chargers we call Nodes. There are 2 different flavors of PCPH for different Business Cases:
PCPH Lite
The Lite model of PCPH for business cases where payment is not required at the Hub and usually billed to customers over period of time. It consists of:
  • Sturdy NEMA 4 anti-vandalism protected case
  • 7 inch LED screen
  • Keyboard
  • Rich Frequency RFID reader
PCPH
for Business cases which require payment at the Hub, it consists of same components of PCPH Lite plus. :
  • Coin acceptor
  • Thermal receipt printer
Both systems operate on redundant power, processors, and memory to eliminate critical failures due to computer malfunctions. Same principle that used for computers on space missions.
Nodes
Node is a modified Grizzl-E EVSE with additional control functions. Node can not operate without PCPH, so at least one PCPH is required per site.
One PCPH can accept and control unlimited number of Nodes. Though we recommend not no exceed 42 nodes per PCPH. PCPH controls Nodes by CAT6 wire. No need for WiFi or Cell signal.
Recommended minimum system set up is one PCPH and 10 Nodes. Nodes are extremely inexpensive and by providing more Nodes we eliminate problems with parking of ICE cars those spots as you actually need only few Nodes to operate daily in order to pay back the investment.
Each PCPH comes with 20 RFID cards.

Functional Capabilities

PCPH can operate in 2 modes:
Stand Alone mode and Connected Mode. In Stand Alone Mode PCPH will collect all required information and payments without being connected to internet. This way there are absolutely no payment or network fees to operate.
In Connected Mode, PCPH need either LAN, WiFi or Cellular connection to internet. Owners can control, set up and draw data from the system online, internet payments also available in Connected Mode.
Admin interface
PCPH provides Admin interface on the actual system to control and set up all the aspects of your business case in Stand Alone mode. System is extremely flexible and can adhere to any business scenarios mentioned below.
Different Node dedication
Different Node dedication You can set up each Node as Public, Private or Special Node. Private Nodes might require simple identification by RFID card, PIN code or not require any identification at all. Private nodes mean you as a business owner knows who would be using those Nodes and you can bill them later for the usage. Public Nodes are those which require immediate payment to operate and usually placed where random customers use.
Special nodes can a combination of Public and Private Nodes where both types of customers can use.
Access control
can be provided by PIN codes, your current RFID cards or RFID cards provided with the system or on-site payment through coin acceptor. Through Admin interface you can set up detailed prices either per hour or per KWH, assign Nodes to RFID cards or PIN codes. You can turn ON and OFF Nodes by date or time.
Power Share
You can assign multiple Nodes to one power source and provide the power source limit in Amps. PCPH will control in real time the current load on those Nodes and lower down the output to maintain less than maximum allowed amperage on that line. Power Share can be dynamic depending on time of the day
Power Control
PCPH can participate in Demand/Response programs of your Utilities or Power Distributor providers in order to bring additional benefits of shifting the load to less expensive time of the day or for emergency power situations.
Telemetry
Telemetry PCPH collect complete telemetry of the charging sessions including date/time, user, session duration, KWH consumed, payments, usage and profitability
Expanding your system
is extremely easy, Nodes can be added, deleted, modified, or replaced from the PCPH system Admin interface. Nodes connected in chain, each node has one control input and one control output. Just install additional Node, connect it by CAT6 wire with nearest active Node and configure it on Admin interface of PCPH. Takes 5 minutes to do!
Payments
can be accepted by coin collector (bills acceptor can be added) in Stand Alone Mode or in addition by any payment provider in Connected Mode. You only going to pay your merchant provider fees in that case. System knows how much money is collected and notify you when your set threshold is met so you can come and remove the money from the system.
Branding
Branding PCPH can be branded with company Logo both on screen and on the actual PCPH box.
Receipts
To make things simple, receipts are printed by the PCPH on site for customers using coin acceptor to pay for charging.
Error logs and reporting
System monitors its health and each Node health in real time and provides error reporting for faster issues resolution. PCPH has ability to switch to secondary circuits would the primary circuits fail. While repairs and parts are on its way, system will continue operation on the secondary circuit. We know how important it is for you to keep the system running at all times

Return on Investment Calculations

This is the most important topic, and this is what makes Grizzle Power Control and Payment Solution superior to any other system on the market. It will make you money! Prepare to crunch some numbers!
Given: 1 PCPH plus 10 Nodes
  • Per KWH pricing set up at 22c per KWH (Current running prices on commercial level 2 systems are about 25 to 28 cents per KWH based on $2.00 per hour at 7 KWH)
  • Utility blended day/time rate over 24 hours we take 12 cents per KWH. Further improvement to in some cases negative power values are available with Demand/Response control of the hub in some Business Cases
  • Solution set up is easy and can be done by the owner once electrical outlets installed by licensed electrician
Calculations: lets determine our profit per KWH
  • We charge 22 cents per KWH and we pay 12 cents, so we are making 10 cents per KWH.
  • Node operates at 10KW power, so we make $1 per hour per Node.
  • Consider we are in Stand Alone Mode - there are no network fees or payment fees we pay! All money we collect we keep!
  • If we divide total initial investment of $6998 by $1 we understand that system will take about 7000 hours to pay back the system.
  • We have 10 nodes, so it is 700 hours per node to pay back the initial investment.
  • Solution comes with 3 years warranty, so to just pay back the original investment we need to divide 700 hours by 1095 days of warranty. Each node must operate for 40 minutes per day to pay back the investment.
  • Average charging session is 2 hours. Across 10 nodes you need to have 3 charging sessions per day for total duration of 6 hours to pay back the investment! This is just 2.5% of total utilization of your system of 10 Nodes.
  • Average utilization of commercial level 2 systems is 20% today and will be 50% in 3 years when we will have 25% of new vehicles sold electric. The ideal ration of Commercial chargers to EVs is 20 to 1, we currently at 60 to1, in 3 years we will be 300 to 1 due to increase in EV adoption. So, your system utilization will grow from 20% to 50% over next 3 years.
  • In numbers that means you will pay back your system at least 10 times faster. That would be about 4 months or less to pay the system off and start making money. Out of 4 months spent to pay back the investment, you still have 32 months under warranty. You will most likely make 5 to 10 times of your original investment over the remaining 32 months

This is why none of the current commercial chargers’ providers talk about ROI: Average current market case:
Given: Same given for power costs
Initial investment: Similar system of 10 ports. As we need to add full 3 year warranty, minimum price per port would be not less than $2500 USD. Without installation, your initial investment is not less than $25 000 USD.
Calculations: lets determine our profit per KWH
  • We charge 22 cents per KWH and we pay 12 cents, so we are making 10 cents per KWH.
  • Most of current Commercial level 2 chargers operate at 7KW power, so we make 70 cents per hour per Port.
  • Network fees (usually cover the transactions fees but not in all cases, we take the best case now) we will take at 10% off the total payment. As mentioned above, average charging session is 2 hours, so it is $3.00 for 2 hours charging at 22 cents per KWH at 7 KWH power.
  • 10% of that would be 30 cents. Or 15 cents per hour if divided by 2 hours.
  • Your profit per hour is 70 cents – 15 cents network fees: 55 cents per hour.
  • Lets see how many hours we need to pay back the initial investment: $25 000 divided by .55 cents comes to 45454 hours needed to pay back original investment.
  • We divide it by 10 ports and by 1095 days (please note, not all commercial chargers have 3 year warranty and in some cases the price per port is even more expensive with 3 years warranty).
  • In order to pay back the investment, your port need to be operational each and every day for at least 4 hours. It is about 20% of total system utilization.
Verdict: In the best-case scenario today there is no ROI in the current commercial Level 2 EV charging systems.
This is the reason why we do not see those chargers popping up everywhere! They DO NOT MAKE MONEY! Mostly current Commercial systems are purchased as an additional benefit to the property and does not provide direct ROI. We are not going to electrify our entire fleet with that approach. Millions of commercial chargers are not going to happen this way. Grizzl-E Solution is the first one out there to disrupt the existing paradigm.
